Fly Fishing for Winter Steelhead focuses on proven, real-world techniques used across Willamette Valley and coastal river systems—from the wet fly swing and fly selection to dialing in your setup, reading water, and adapting your approach to changing structure and flows. We’ll break down how to control line, manage depth, and make effective casts in tight, technical water where winter steelhead often hold, along with practical strategies for turning each run into a higher-percentage opportunity.

Taught by Fly Casting Champion and seasoned instructor Blake Reimer of Discovery Fly Fishing, this clinic is for anglers who embrace cold water, empty riverbanks, and the moment a winter steelhead finally commits. Designed to meet you where you are, the instruction emphasizes clarity, efficiency, and repeatable technique—so whether you’re refining your swing or pursuing your first chrome fish, you’ll leave better equipped to approach winter rivers with confidence, intention, and control.

We will spend some time outside—demonstrating technique, so please dress for the weather.

Fly Fishing & Casting Clinic – December 27

Designed for anglers of all experience levels, this clinic brings together the fundamentals and finer points of fly fishing and casting in one comprehensive, hands-on session. Whether you’re just getting started or looking to push your skills further, the focus is on building efficient, repeatable technique and a better understanding of how gear, flies, and water all work together.

We’ll cover common on-the-water mistakes, practical equipment and line selection, effective fly choices, and where to fish within a 1.5-hour drive. The day includes hands-on casting instruction led by Fly Casting Champion and seasoned instructor Blake Reimer of Discovery Fly Fishing,—overhead casting, double haul, Spey casting, and more—so you can feel the difference in real time and leave with tools you can apply immediately on the water.
